of the MRPs by Mark-Anthony Bailey
You knew their names even before you started bodybuilding. Met-Rx
and EAS Myoplex are two of the best selling supplements on the market.
Both are MRPs (Meal Replacement Products), meaning that they could
be used in place of a standard meal. Therefore, an MRP should offer
a good balance of total nutrition: Protein, Carbohydrates, Fat,
Vitamins & Minerals. Let us compare the two gram for gram............
Both samples are chocolate flavor
Add 16 grams of Protein for 2 cups of milk added
Myoplex has 42 grams of "Myopro", their own blend of
whey, milk & egg proteins. Met-Rx has a great blend also called
"Metamyosyn" but EAS wins this one because it has 4
grams more protein per serving.
Both Met-Rx and Myoplex have only 3 grams of sugar but Met-Rx
has more fiber and less total carbs keeping it a lean choice.
Close one here but Myoplex won as it has only 2 grams of total
fat (Met-Rx 2.5 grams....oh well)
With todays foods, its very hard to keep your sodium intake down,
so every milligrams counts. Myoplex gets the nod with 50mg less
salt than its competitor.
Potassium is a very important electrolyte needed for muscle contraction.
Met-Rx has over double the amount of potassium as EAS Myoplex.
Vitamins & Minerals
Here is where it gets dirty. Met-Rx has more Vitamin A, C, D,
and E. Myoplex makers forgot to put it Vitamin K. B6, magnesium,
zinc, and iron are all relatively close.
Met-Rx has been around longer and can be found EVERYWHERE. For
a box of 20 packs, you will pay around $33.00 compared to $36.00
and up for EAS Myoplex.
Your choice. I like to mix them up with alot of fruits, ice cream
etc. I think Myoplex has a more creamy taste but both are excellent.
Do they work? Yes, when taken correctly with a proper diet and
exercise program. You can't go wrong with adding one of these
drinks once a day to your supplement plan. In fact, MRPs along
with creatine is a great, cost effective way to supplement your
diet adding to recovery, strength and size.
My MRP of choice?
Met-Rx is cost effective, packed with a great balance of nutrients,
comes in a wide variety of flavors, mixes easy with milk and is
a quality brand you can trust. I know alot of people still swear
by EAS (I was one of them of awhile), but stepping back and seeing
the whole picture, I think Met-Rx is the better buy.
